Select special tours will be available for conference participants the morning of June 17, 2017. Tours will be led by local historians and practitioners and provide unique insights into interpreting the history of slavery, its race and class legacies in Charleston, and historically interconnected local, regional, and international sites. June 17, 2017 marks the second anniversary of the tragic and racially motivated mass shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, also known as Mother Emanuel, in downtown Charleston, SC. The conference will provide participants with information about city-wide events marking the occasion.
